Layna tapilti muka / River Song

Layna tapilti muka / River Song is our leading project for 2023 and will be created in partnership with Tasmanain Aboriginal company, NITA Education. The project involves the creation of a 4-metre stringybark ningher (canoe). The long process of making of 4kms of rope will be assisted by workshops with local school students from Bicheno and Swansea Primaries. Once the rope is made, the building of the ningher will take place during the Saturday daytime of ECHO Festival. The ningher will be paddled upstream at around 5pm to greet the audience ashore.

Nita Education will then perform the Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Mutton Bird Dance.
