Previous involvement with the Tasmanian poetry and spoken word community has included competing as a Tasmanian finalist in the Australian poetry slam 2015, 2016 along with the creation and curation of the Story Dome at the Nayri Niara Good Spirit Festival 2019 And 2022.
Linda writes “letter to mother” from the perspective of being born and removed from ancestry during the adoption practices of the 1970’s, which regularly involved a deep shaming of Mothers, especially young and unmarried women, who often felt forced into child relinquishment.
Her personal journey into Motherhood and the undeniable gift of her daughter, comprised an arduous journey to conception, miscarriage and the death of a son in utero at 17 weeks.
She has also been a much-loved baby and daughter to both of her mothers, despite her own experiences with grief, belonging and search for identity.
Linda hopes her spoken word will allow listeners to journey through their own personal and unique experience of “Mother”, in all her vastness whilst in the comfort and cradling cocoon of the ECHO Festival Womb Room.
